A Report from the Philadelphia Show (the 23rd)

Hello, I waited to see if anyone was going to post pictures or reviews (since I didn't take a camera) but alas there aren't any as of yet. It was a great show. The venue was tiny, I'd say there were less than 50 people there and you could be as close to the stage as you wanted. I really liked the Jeffrey Lewis band, they were a lot of fun. The only way onto the stage was through the crowd so when the time came Adam just shuffled through the people and up the three steps at the front of the stage. He looked so good! (sorry this is going to get fan-girly fro just a bit), he was clean shaven, and I believe he'd had a haircut (it was well groomed regardless.) Also he had on a nice sweater and plaid pants, quite fashionable with the addition of a small beer gut. The band and Adam seemed in good spirits. Adam was talkative laughing and joking. And of course there was great dancing. I hope he wouldn't be insulted to hear I never laughed so much at a concert. A lot of kids up front danced as well and I thought the environment was great. I can't remember the set but I enjoyed all the songs he played. He ended with 'dance with me' and everyone had a good time dancing.

DPT at the Bowery Ballroom

Finally I have something to post in my journal. Last night I went to the first DPT show at the Bowery Ballroom. After a worldwind train delayed crazy taxi adventure the concert was wonderful. What a great time! I'd never been to this venue but it was really neat, the bar and stage were underground and it was a very cool environment. We waited in line inside the venue talking to other lovely Libertines and DPT fans something I hardly ever get to do! I was stood next to two british women, one of whom had a camera and she showed her saved pictures, she'd been to a babyshambles show, it was so silly to see Peter on her little screen. When they let everyone in we got places right near the front to the right of the stage. I really enjoyed Scissors For Lefty, they were fun and dance-y and very charsimatic. The guitarist the singer and the keyboradist all had some dance moves and a lot of the crowd danced along as well. They brought a cake with them onstage shaped like an Octupus, which they called and Octo-pie (get it heheh?) and they passed it to two kids in the crowd and had them deliver it to a girl in the merch booth. Later the singer jumped out into the crowd and sang the sexy parts of one of the songs AT people in the crowd.
Ok Dirty Pretty Things, firstly I've never seen a band that needs so much techie warm up people or on stage drinks mixers, they had vodka and cranberry diet soda and vodka, corona, jamesons and another beer I don't remember. Got keep hydrated eh? When they came out the crowd roared, and I was rather starstruck. They launched right into the set starting with Deadwood and the crowd was dancing and bouncing from then on. It was funny I had my real "Oh my gosh that's Carl!" moment when he turned to the side and I could see his LIbertine tatoo for some reason that's what got me. The whole band was great and I thought they all looked dashingly handsome even Didz! (Sorry Didz) and Josh fit in really well.
There was a lot of manly smooching going on, Carl kissed every one on the cheek at least once. Also Carl was very touchy with Josh like reassuring man patting and whatnot, plus some guitar love between Josh and Anthony which was cute. Carl seemed ready to be rid of his sling, he stomped around shook his butt and mostly ignored the fact that he was in a sling. He reminded me of Bruce Springsteen trying to dance in that old music video (sorry Carl). The songs were so nice live, I actually hate You Fucking Love it but I'll admit it's fun to push and shove to at a show.
Speaking of pushing and shoving I did a lot of it, the crowd got pleasantly rowdy at the end and being in the front middle we were all dancing and pushing (in a friendly not aggressive way) My favorite songs were probably Burma and I Get Along even though I was sad when they played Death on the Stairs (didn't feel right to me). They played a three song encore I believe and it was really so great. Oh and towards the end Carl reached in to plant a kiss on Josh's cheek and Josh turned and gave him a kiss on the mouth instead. Carl made silliest yet pleasantly bemused expression.
After the show I said hello to the first band who was milling around and bought a t-shirt, I also saw they were handing out cups of the guts of the octo-pie which I called and octupus and got reprimanded quickly for by a boy behind me. We jumped into a taxi and ran and got the train home at PennStation what a night! We saw that there was an afterparty but it was a long ride home and it sounded a little to hob knobby for me plus it might have been 21 and over. Cheers for reading.
